Scholarships for youth, educators and farmers/ranchers

As part of our information and education program the Conservation District offers scholarships for students, teachers, and landowners to attend various events. Some annual events include:

No Till on the Plains Winter Conference 
Held in late January.  Scholarships for Franklin County residents who are FIRST TIME ATTENDEES are available on a limited basis; contact our office beginning in July for scholarship information for the following January conference. Scholarship funds are provided through the Kansas Department of Agriculture - Division of Conservation and administered locally by the Franklin County Conservation District.

Range Youth Camp
Held each July at Camp Mennoscah in Murdock, KS (Kingman County) for high school students entering their sophomore, junior or senior year who are interested in plants, livestock or wildlife.  This is a educational event like no other in Kansas! Students will learn range plant identification, plant growth, stocking rates, livestock nutrition, rangeland wildlife management and much more. Scholarships are available for Franklin County students! Contact the Conservation District between Feb 15 & April 15 for scholarship information. 

Kansas Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom 
Summer Course prepares K-12 teachers to integrate agriculture into their classrooms. The course exposes teachers to various agricultural opportunities and provides them with a variety of resources to use when preparing and presenting lesson plans to their students. $500 scholarships are available for Franklin County Teachers. Complete the registration through KFAC and they will notify our office for scholarships. 

Don Peterson Memorial Scholarship
Established by the family in 1996 in memory of Don Peterson from Clifton, Kansas in Washington County. Don was an active and firm believer in the conservation and protection of our natural resources. He was a member of the Washington County Conservation District Board of Supervisors and a member of the State Conservation Commission in Topeka. He graduated from Kansas State College with a B.S. degree in Agronomy. After severing twenty-six years as a pilot in the United States Air Force, he returned to the farm near Clifton. Scholarship Amount and Eligibility: Up to $500 for the fall semester for a full time college junior or senior student majoring in Agronomy/Range Management, or closely related field. Applications due by March 15 of each year. 

General Memorial Scholarship
Established in memory of individuals who were active in the conservation and protection of our natural resources. Individual contributions are combined to provide the scholarship (s). A memorial list, if available will be provided to the scholarship recipient (s) for proper recognition and thanks. Scholarship Amount and Eligibility: Up to $250 for the fall semester for a full time college Junior or Senior Student majoring in a Natural Resource related field.  Applications due March 15 of each year.
