School Conservation Education Programs

We offer various hands-on learning programs which fit into the Kansas College and Career Ready Standards (KCCRS) and Common Core for cross curricular lessons.  The Franklin County Conservation District endorses the Kansas Environmental Literacy Plan. We continue to work closely with Kansas environmental education professionals through the Kansas Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom, Kansas Green Schools Program and the Kansas Association for Conservation and Environmental Education (KACEE).  Franklin County received honors for our education programs when our District Manager received the Kansas Association for Conservation and Environmental Education 2012 Award for Excellence in Conservation and Environmental Education related to Agriculture.

Our environmental education programs provide interactive learning experiences for students and adults to engage in non-biased, science based, hands-on learning that encourages the building of critical thinking skills and good decision making processes.  We strive to create environmentally literate Kansan's for the future through our programs.

We are here to assist educators in any way possible; this includes giving classroom presentations, providing educational brochures or other resources, and also providing opportunities for teachers to earn graduate credits through hosted and sponsored professional development workshops!

Research shows that students are more likely to remember and be able to apply skills and knowledge that are experienced.  85-90% will remember what they see, hear and do; while only 10-15% remember things they have read or heard. We want to provide opportunities for students to experience environmental education!

Below is a brief overview of the conservation and environmental education programs we offer.       We cover soil, water, air, plants and animals through our educational lessons.
